Our medical evacuation and repatriation insurance provides universities and colleges with financial protection to cover the cost of emergency medical assistance, aftercare, and repatriation should one of your international students be involved in a serious accident and tragically lost their lives, became seriously ill or attempted or died by suicide.
In terms of travel insurance, repatriation means the return of someone to their home country should they fall ill, have an accident or die in the country they are visiting. In terms of travel insurance the most commonly occurs due to requiring medical treatment.
Should you need to be transported home following a medical problem abroad, the reason the costs are so high for repatriation is because you may require a medical escort (for example a nurse or a doctor), a specialist air ambulance and expenses for your treatment and hospital stay.
Most travel insurance policies will cover the cost of repatriation however not all policies will give the same level of protection and in some cases, international students who are studying in the UK may not be able to obtain this type of cover which leaves their university or college at risk.
