Love and protect your gadgets

It’s difficult to imagine life without a smartphone, laptop or tablet; how would we keep in contact with friends and family, or update our social media? But in a world of technology, do you know how to protect your phone? To make life a bit easier by avoiding any gadget-related mishaps, we’ve put together our top safety tips for mobile phone and gadgets users to make sure your possessions are protected at all times.

6 handy tips to help you protect your mobile phone

1. Keep your phone safe

A good place to start is by doing what you can to keep your beloved possessions out of harm’s way. It’s worth investing in a phone case or a laptop bag to avoid any damage from general wear and tear. You can also have a bit of fun choosing a stylish case or cover – there are a great range of colourful phone cases available online, so you don’t have to be restricted by a boring design.

2. Avoid putting your phone in your back pocket

Convenient as it might be, try not to leave your phone in the back pocket of your trousers or jeans. Even if it feels safe, there’s nothing to stop someone leaning across and pinching it from you without you realising. Not only that, but by leaving your phone in your back pocket there’s also a risk (unsurprisingly) that it’s going to be sat on.

Try and remain on the safe side by popping your phone in a safe place, zipped up and out of sight.

3. Use a screen protector

Ever wondered, “should I use a screen protector?” It was probably just a passing thought, and you more than likely came to the conclusion that you didn’t need one because you always take special care of your gadgets.

But, sadly, all it takes is a blink of an eye, and CRACK!, your phone’s on the floor and sporting a sparkly new dent right down the middle.

Avoid the dreaded moment of having to inspect your phone or laptop after watching it fall face-first onto the floor by investing in a screen protector. Although electrical items are becoming much more resilient, this will ensure that your screen is kept clean and scratch-free.

4. Lock it up

If you’re not going to be using your laptop or tablet and plan on leaving it in your room, it’s worth hiding it out of sight. Or, if you want it to be totally secure, invest in a lock for your desk or storage cupboard. A number of laptops also come equipped with a small hole with which you can affix a ‘Kensington Lock’, securing the device to a cable anchored in your room.

5. Create a strong passcode

Don’t rely on simply locking your phone, laptop or tablet - ensure you have gone into your settings and added a passcode to prevent anyone from picking up your gadget and having immediate access. Make sure you choose a passcode which isn’t easy to guess, for example, your birthday. The longest passcodes are usually the most difficult to crack.

6. Think about gadget insurance

Unfortunately, even if you follow all of this advice, mishaps can still occur. With this in mind, it’s worth investigating gadget insurance to make sure your gadgets are fully protected when you’re out and about. With suitable gadget insurance in place, even if your beloved gadgets are lost, stolen, or broken, you won’t have to be without them for too long.
