Insurance provider supports three Cheltenham-based charities hit by pandemic


Endsleigh Insurance Services is donating £3,000 to be split between three charities, partially funded by a grant from Ecclesiastical Insurance. Endsleigh wants to help local organisations that have been badly hit by the pandemic, facing funding and donation gaps. The three charities, voted for by staff, are Winston’s Wish, Cheltenham Animal Shelter and Community Connexions.

Winston’s Wish was the UK’s first childhood bereavement charity. Since 1992, they have supported bereaved children, young people, their families and the professionals who support them.

Cheltenham Animal Shelter has helped animals since 1926. They rescue dogs, cats and small animals from across Gloucestershire, with approximately 650 animals passing through their doors each year.

Community Connexions provides transport for people of all ages across Gloucestershire who would otherwise struggle, enabling independence and inclusion. This may be due to physical, mental, social or rural barriers.

Endsleigh applied for grant funding from Ecclesiastical Insurance Group’s ‘Closer to You’ charity support programme to be able to boost their support for the three charities. This programme gives Ecclesiastical’s select insurance broker partners the chance to be part of its ambition to give over £100 million to good causes. As well as providing funding for charities close to brokers, employees from the specialist insurer are also teaming up with brokers for volunteering days and fundraising challenges.

Beyond the £3,000 grant, Endsleigh will continue to support the charities throughout the year through a number of fundraising initiatives. This summer, staff are raising money by walking and running 5,621 miles for ‘Endsleigh runs the country’, which also celebrates Endsleigh turning 56 in 2021. Future events include a summer fair, raffles and even a fire walk. Endsleigh employees will also have the opportunity to volunteer for any of the three charities.

Since the first day of the first lockdown, not-for-profit organisations have gone above and beyond in supporting our communities. The third sector has joined together to keep their doors open (if able to) and their services running in any way possible.

Whilst many charities still face challenges of increased demands and constrained fundraising, we hope that these grants will make a difference to those who need the vital support that these organisations provide.”
