Insurance provider keen to support charity sector during COVID-19

Endsleigh Insurance Services has donated its £2,500 grant from Ecclesiastical Insurance to two charities to help support them during COVID-19 lockdown.

Following the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF)* survey of 271 charities taken late last month which found that almost 4 in 10 (37%) said they would not be able to operate in their current form for six months without extra help – either from Government or elsewhere, Endsleigh wanted to make their donation work as hard as possible.

The first beneficiary chosen was The Birmingham Settlement  a charity that aims to change lives by developing communities and helping people lead happy, fulfilling lives by providing independent guidance and support for those facing financial difficulty, isolation or social exclusion.

The second donation was made to Cotswold Riding for the Disabled a local charity who bring people together to ride, or help others to ride, ponies. This opportunity offers excellent therapy to both young and old who live with a disability.

Ben Harris, Charity Account Executive Endsleigh Insurance Services said: “At Endsleigh, we understand that these are difficult times for the third sector but it is so encouraging to see each charity or not-for-profit organisation in one way or another working together to continue to provide their vital services, support the national effort and local communities.

“It was quite shocking to read the CAF report which stated a majority (54%) said their ability to operate as they do now would be impacted within a year. This is as charities have had to cancel crucial fundraising events and staff and volunteers are unable to work due to the social distancing measures currently in place to help keep us safe. As an insurance provider there are limited resources as our disposal but we hope this grant will make a difference to those who need the vital support that these two charities provide”

Claire Jenkins General Manager, Cotswold Riding for the Disabled added: “We have had to close losing over £2,000 per week of income from riding activities. 15 very special ponies are at the very heart of everything that we do. Their welfare is our top priority and we still have the costs to bear for hay, feed, farrier and if necessary, the vet. This donation will help us to care for our ponies and ensure that they are ready to support our 225 disabled adults and children as soon as we are able to. We are delighted to work with your colleagues from Endsleigh, not only with our insurance but practical volunteering days and fundraising. Thank you so much for choosing us.”

Endsleigh Insurance Services applied for grant funding from Ecclesiastical Insurance Group’s ‘Closer to You’ charity support programme to be able to boost their support for the charity sector. The programme gives Ecclesiastical’s select insurance broker partners the chance to be part of its ambition to give £100 million to good causes. As well as providing funding for charities close to brokers, employees from the specialist insurer are also teaming up with brokers for volunteering days and fundraising challenges.

Endsleigh Insurance Services, based in Cheltenham, made an early decision to move staff to working from home and have even been able to keep their customer contact centre running, with extended hours, Monday to Friday from 8am – 6pm. For further information visit www.endsleigh.co.uk
