What’s your role at SpareRoom?
I’m the landlords’ first port of call – whether you’re advertising your first room, or need advice on how to fill numerous properties, I’m here for you. I help landlords make the most of advertising on SpareRoom.co.uk and get really good value for money.
If you had to describe what your organisation does in one paragraph, what would you say?
We connect people looking for rooms to rent with those needing to fill them. Specialising in room rentals, SpareRoom.co.uk is the UK’s busiest flatshare website and one of the top 10 property websites in the country. Flatsharers, homeowners, landlords and agents can all advertise their rooms and find good tenants easily, quickly and with minimum fuss.

We serve landlords, homeowners, agents and flatsharers.
What one thing do you want your customers to think about you?
It’s all about quality and choice, empowering people find the right flatmates or tenants.
What’s your company vision?
We believe that life’s better when you share, and that sharing needn’t be grim. If you share with the right people, flat sharing can be some of the best times of your life. We’re here to connect people so that they can find the right people to share with.
How do you work with Endsleigh?

What wouldn’t people know about your company...?
SpareRoom’s founder, Rupert Hunt, came to London with the intention of being a rock star, but ended up founding the company when he realised what a struggle it is to find somewhere decent and affordable to live. To this day, over a decade later, Rupert heads the company and its mission to help everyone find somewhere affordable to live. Even now he’s sharing his home with flatmates even though he doesn’t have to, just because he believes life’s better when you share.
While he’s at it, Rupert wants to tackle the lazy service culture that’s grown up in this country – companies who can’t be bothered to do anything beyond their remit to help their customer out, or who point to the small print to explain why you can’t be reimbursed. When you use SpareRoom you’ll find our customer service is different from the rest. We’ve won awards for it and are keen to continue our high standards.

If you could change one law or policy, what would that be?
We’re supportive of Shelter’s policy of campaigning to end homelessness and bad housing. We support good landlords and want to make things easier for them to operate well in a safe private rental market, but don’t believe that mandatory licensing is a silver bullet that will help to get put rogue landlords out of business completely.
