Shared Lives carers can provide care, support and accommodation to vulnerable adults who need help with everyday living. This could be someone with learning difficulties, dementia, mental health issues or other disabilities.
Like foster care, no two person's needs are the same. The users of Shared Lives services generally live within the carer's home but, like foster care, the duration can range from emergency support lasting a few days (perhaps following a bereavement or abuse) to a longer term basis with daycare support.
Shared Lives carers are often people who have been foster carers previously.
