The Endsleigh Students Possession Survey (ESPS) 2003, supported by the NUS, revealed that the average student now takes around £4000 belongings to university. Most students greatly underestimate the value of their possessions – on average by £1100.
Students tend to have a much higher proportion of high value goods than in the past. Most students own a mobile phone, many own laptops or PCs and a growing number of courses require expensive technical equipment.
In addition, students often possess gifts from eighteenth or twenty-first birthdays, which hold sentimental as well as monetary value.
