Van Insurance bolstered by internet solution

A new online initiative could help reduce vehicle theft and lower Van Insurance costs.

Truckwatch, which is backed by the Road Haulage Association, the Freight Transport Association (the two largest haulage industry bodies) and a number of police forces, allows details of stolen vehicles to be immediately forwarded to a network of members who can help locate the missing van.

In the past, details of stolen vehicles were sent to members by fax but the new online alert system should speed up the process. TruckWatch members can now post and browse stolen vehicle reports on the scheme's web site.

It is hoped that the new initiative will eventually lower insurance premiums for van drivers and increase vehicle recovery rates.
