Hasty admission of liability can inflate Van Insurance premiums

Tue, 31 May 2005

Van drivers should avoid admitting liability at the roadside otherwise they could face higher premiums.

A study conducted by Prudential shows that many drivers feel the need to say sorry following an accident but the apology is not always necessary.

Prudential spokesman Phil Southgate explained to Auto Express: "It's a typically 'British' trait to say sorry for everything, whether it's justified or not.

"But the scene of an accident isn't the place to decide whether you are at fault - a hasty decision made in the heat of the moment could potentially leave you out of pocket."

The research also urges van drivers to ensure they carry a pen and paper to record vital details of an accident in order to complete the necessary insurance documentation when making a claim.
