A new survey has discovered the worst places to stop whilst embarking on UK motorway travel.
According to a survey by Holiday Which? magazine, the worst motorway services can be found at Cullompton on the M5. The report described the stop as "little more than a McDonald's next to a petrol station" and visitors could expect unclean toilets, missing seats, broken locks and wet floors.
The survey examined 57 of the country's motorway service stations, which aim to provide a break for those forced to travel long journeys on the motorway network.
The best place to stop was awarded to Tebay, on the M6 in Cumbria. The station was described as having nice views, a good restaurant and a local shop which is "as close as the motorway network comes to Harrods' Food Hall".
Lorna Cowan, editor of Holiday Which?, said: "We found a wide variation in the quality of motorway service stations.
"There's no reason why all service stations shouldn't be able to match the standards set by the best so people can know what to expect when they see a great big sign directing them off the motorway."
