Travellers not deterred from hurricane holiday season

Many travellers are not planning to alter their holiday plans despite the forthcoming hurricane season.

Research from TripAdvisor discovered that 89 per cent of holidaymakers are not planning to change their vacation plans in order to avoid the hurricane hotspots.

The poll of 3,000 travellers also concluded that six in ten are actually attracted to visiting the Caribbean area during the traditional hurricane season. However, 63 per cent confirmed they are planning to purchase Holiday Insurance that offers cancellation cover - just in case there is a repeat of last year's Hurricane Katrina.

TripAdvisor spokeswoman, Michelle Perry, explained: "While this confirms that travellers tend to be a hearty and resolute bunch, the residual effect from last year's hurricanes is showing up in heightened interest in Travel Insurance and avoidance of destinations that were hit hardest last year."
