Holidaymakers are being reminded that Travel Insurance products are affordable and vital.
Research by online financial surveyors Defaqto discovered that many people overestimate how much Travel Insurance policies cost and therefore often avoid purchasing cover.
However, this attempt to save money could prove foolish, especially as Travel Insurance can help to protect against the expensive cost of emergency medical treatment or cancellation costs.
Brian Brown, the associate director at Defaqto, stressed that not taking Travel Insurance in order to save a few pounds could eventually end up costing thousands in the long-run.
"A lot of people just don't think of it," said Mr Brown.
He added: "Some people are even reluctant to spend eight pounds - that's three drinks on holiday. With travel brochures you get it into your head that it costs £30 for cover but if you shop around it can come to a lot less."
