Travel Insurance is becoming vital for holiday makers especially as the cost of travelling within Europe rises.

New research from Halifax Travel Insurance shows that many Brits are getting a raw deal when it comes to purchasing European holidays and they could be better off looking at travelling to a more exotic location such as Japan.

Fluctuations in currency markets and inflation changes mean that the British pound can buy around 20 per cent more in long-haul destinations. Meanwhile holiday makers in Greece, Spain, France and Italy have seen the value of their pound fall by around ten per cent.

"It is important when choosing a holiday destination that travellers not only consider the cost of travel and accommodation, but also how much it will cost to purchase goods and services when they are in the country," said Vicky Emmott, senior underwriting manager for Halifax Travel Insurance.

Holiday makers are also advised to check their have adequate Travel Insurance to cover the possible cost of medical treatment or theft of any personal belongings.
