Traffic TV could be a new way of enabling Young Drivers to avoid traffic jams.

The in-car service uses GPRS enabled or 3G network mobile phones to display the latest congestion news and travel information. For around £40 per year, the subscription service allows drivers to receive information on potential traffic hotspots through out the UK using information provided by the Highways Agency and Trafficmaster.

The software displays a map of the entire UK trunk and motorway network and drivers can use the mobile phone buttons to zoom in on any particular region or road. The service then provides average speed of traffic and length of any delays in minutes and Young Drivers can also see a live view of the jam via roadside cameras.

Commercial director of mxData, the developer of Traffic TV, Ian Tomson-Smith said: "In a recent survey carried out with What Mobile? Magazine, motorists believed they could save nearly three hours a week if they could see the traffic conditions ahead.

"This is why Traffic TV has become so popular - The partnerships with the Highways Agency and Trafficmaster means that Traffic TV is able to provide the most reliable and comprehensive mobile traffic information available."
