Travellers who have been diagnosed with cancer are being encouraged to shop around for the most suitable Holiday Insurance cover otherwise they could face expensive premiums.

The Mail on Sunday reports that some Holiday Insurance providers do not cover people who have been recently diagnosed with cancer, whilst other companies may increase premiums significantly.

For example, when Sue Watkins was diagnosed she correctly told her holiday insurer of her condition. However, the company immediately withdraw its cover and Mrs Watkins found that many other providers felt the same way.

"The mere mention of breast cancer seems to send insurers into a panic," said Mrs Watkins.

"I called eight other insurers over two days to try to find alternative cover. Only one said it could insure me, at a cost of £844 - almost as much as the cost of my holiday."

Charity Breast Cancer Care (BCC) is calling on Holiday Insurance companies to rethink their policies, especially given the improvement in treatment and recovery rates.
