New research has indicated that 15 million British people are planning to take a weekend break over the next six months - with Paris the top city of choice.
More than one million people - or nine per cent of the British adult population - are planning a short break in the French capital, with Amsterdam following at seven per cent and New York a close third with six per cent.
However, just over one in ten of those going away are putting themselves and their belongings at risk by not intending to take out travel insurance, according to the research by Sainsbury's Bank.
"Short trips abroad are very popular, but as people are not away for long and often make last minute bookings, Travel Insurance can be easily overlooked," explains Michael Liddell, Travel Insurance manager at Sainsbury's Bank.
He adds: "Calamities such as falling ill or losing your baggage can just as easily happen on a short trip, so it's as important to pack your Travel Insurance as it is your toothbrush and passport."
Forty per cent of Londoners are intending to get away from it all on a short break before July, the research suggests, whilst only 27 per cent of those who live in Wales and the south west will make it abroad in that time.
