Important papers need a holiday too

Many holidaymakers are forgetting to pack vital documents when travelling abroad, according to a new survey.

Research from insurance provider Saga discovered that 59 per cent of European driving travellers often forget to take their insurance policy documents or driving licence on holiday with them.

The survey also revealed that an insurance policy is vital for anyone planning a holiday that involves driving on unfamiliar rounds, with 37 per cent of travellers admitting they found foreign road signs confusing, with at least one in five admitting they round it hard to remember which way to go round a roundabout.

"To limit the chances of getting into difficulty, people should plan their route before they leave and ask their passengers to navigate," said Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga.

He added: "Driving licences and insurance documents are compulsory for driving abroad and should be the first thing you pack."
