Travellers planning to trips to long-haul destinations such as Miami must still ensure they have the appropriate Holiday Insurance cover before jetting off.

Major airline Virgin Atlantic is celebrating its 20th anniversary of carrying passengers to Miami. Since launching the route in 1986, the airline estimates that it has carried around four million passengers and is expecting to serve up its millionth glass of champagne on the route within the next five years.

Chairman Sir Richard Branson said: "Miami is such an important route for Virgin Atlantic as there is so much history - you could say it was one of the routes which launched us as a world class international carrier."

He added: "Twenty years on it still remains a very popular business and holiday destination, with many people from the UK owning second homes in the region."

The service to Miami provides passengers with the opportunity of Upper Class as well as Premium Economy seats. Those travellers opting for Upper Class are able to access Virgin's new Clubhouse at Heathrow and enjoy its exclusive spa pool as well as an in-flight bar.
