Holiday insurance vital for overseas trips

The growing number of people planning a trip overseas this year are being urged to remember to buy Holiday Insurance cover.

A new survey from the Post Office discovered that just 30 per cent of Brits are planning to take a UK break in 2006, compared to 34 per cent last year. However, the number of people planning to take a holiday has increased by 1.1 million to total 30 million as overseas destinations prove too tempting, especially with the expansion of low-cost flight travel.

Hugh Stacey, head of travel services at the Post Office, said: "Nowadays it's cheaper to travel than ever. The rise of the internet as a sales channel and competitive pressures in the market have forced prices down, which is great news for UK holiday lovers."

However, travellers are being reminded that a cheap vacation could prove very expensive if they neglect to purchase Holiday Insurance. Shopping around for the best policy now could help to cover costs associated with emergency medical treatment, last-minute cancellations and the replacement of lost belongings.
