Many US airlines are increasing their fares following the decision of major carrier Delta Air Lines to add $5 to its one-way ticket prices.
However, shopping around for Holiday Insurance could help many British tourists offset the new flight prices as well as protecting them against possible delays, cancellations, lost baggage and unexpected medical treatment costs.
A spokeswoman for Delta airlines confirmed that the continued high price of aviation fuel was partly to blame for the price increase as well as oversupply of available seats.
"Delta continues to respond to the increasing cost pressures on our business, including fuel," said Chris Kelly.
Delta's decision to increase ticket costs has subsequently led to a number of other major airlines pushing up their average ticket costs including American Airlines, Continental Airlines and Northwest Airlines.
