Eclectic holiday reading for MPs

MPs have a very varied reading list for their summer holiday recess, according to a new poll.

A survey by CommunicateResearch found that Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code thriller and the latest Harry Potter title will be accompanying politicians on their travels this summer.

However, some MPs prefer more heavyweight topics such as the biography of William Pitt the Younger by former Tory leader William Hague, whilst others may be hoping to pick up some tips by reading biographies of Tony Blair and Margaret Thatcher.

The poll of 153 House of Common members and 100 representatives from the House of Lords also revealed that a fifth of MPs said it was unlikely they would have time to read for fun, with four out of ten believing they would definitely not find time – despite an 11 week holiday from Parliamentary duties.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that US president George Bush will be discovering the histories of salt, influenza and the life of Alexander II during his five-week break at his Texas ranch.
