Double-check the holiday insurance

Travellers are being reminded to double-check their insurance documents and ensure they are purchasing the must suitable Holiday Insurance policy.

Many holidaymakers could find themselves having to pay out large sums of money if they are involved in an accident and do not have adequate Travel Insurance cover, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Recent figures from the Department of Health suggest that around 60 million trips will be taken by British citizens during 2006, but many will neglect to purchase competitive travel insurance.

In particular, many travellers fail to realise they can save substantially by opting for multi-trip rather than single-trip policies. Holidaymakers are also advised to make sure their policy will cover any planned adventurous holiday pursuits such as water sports.

Graham Hellebon, of More Than, explained: "Travel Insurance can make an unfortunate situation more bearable - and a lot less stressful.

"Every day we speak to people who would have been in a very tricky situation without travel insurance. It's not pleasant to have to sleep in an airport if you miss your flight, wear the same clothes for three days while you wait for your bag to turn up, or worry about the cost of treatment should you end up in a foreign hospital."
