Avoid expensive travel insurance deals

Consumers are being advised to make sure they don't automatically opt for expensive Travel Insurance cover this summer.

In particular, travellers are being urged to make sure they avoid any expensive cover offered by their travel company or holiday provider as they often do not represent good value for money.

The increasing competition within the industry means that many insurance companies are now offering families a wide range of affordable and comprehensive Travel Insurance policies.

For example, leading provider Nationwide recently revamped its single-trip policy to allow children to go for free, meaning cover for a two-week European trip starts at around £49.13. However, comparable cover provided through a travel agent could cost over £75.

It is also important to remember that some providers regard youngsters up to the age of 22 as children, as long as they are in full-time education. This could mean substantial savings on Travel Insurance costs for many families.
