Research has revealed just how much money holidaymakers from the UK are wasting on single-trip travel insurance.

Two out of three British people took at least two foreign holidays last year according to Alliance & Leicester Current Account, but only 27 per cent of them took out annual cover - resulting in about £500 million of collective money wasted.

"Many of us who go on holiday more than once a year would be better off getting an annual policy," said Simon Ripton, current accounts manager at Alliance & Leicester.

Last year, holidaymakers from the UK took 63.6 million trips abroad, paying between £9.45 and £58.58 for each trip with single-trip travel insurance, whilst annual multi-trip cover can start from as little as £49.
