Pet owners urged to get insured

22/06/2004

Owning a pet can be an expensive business.

With pet bills spiralling animal loving Britons are being encouraged to take out comprehensive Pet Insurance policies.

More than 14 million people in Briton own a pet, with cats and dogs remaining the most popular companions.

However, research from Norwich Union released this week showed that vets charge up to £1,000 to treat a dog with a broken leg.

Pet owners can avoid these hefty charges with an insurance policy covering illness, injury or even death.

The research revealed that one in three pets will need some kind of attention from a vet during their lives, making an insurance policy look like a prudent step for anyone with a four-legged friend.
