Cats on the brain

12/09/2004

Vets in Boston have adapted an MRI machine so they can provide brain scans for worried pet owners.

The move is the latest in a series of developments, which have seen massive improvements in the provision of animal health.

Not only can cats, dogs and other pets expect specifically designed medical insurance, they are also able to receive state-of-the-art treatment.

MRI scans are used to examine muscle and soft tissue such as the brain and the spine.

The scans can avoid unnecessary operations and aid vets in their diagnoses.

Like most pet treatments, MRI scans don't come cheap - a scan without anaesthetic costs upwards of $600.
