America's pet obsession reached new heights earlier this month when a leading department store literally put animals before people.

A human rights lobby group discovered that Home Depot offered Pet Insurance among its staff perks.

But while dogs and cats could sleep easy safe in the knowledge that their medical needs would be looked after, the human partners of Home Depot employees did not have the same entitlement.

The company has now corrected what it described as an oversight.

Home Depot was one of four Fortune 500 companies offering Pet Insurance but no partner health insurance.
