Scooter insurance costs to fall as bill promotes safety

Wed, 25 May 2005

New proposals detailed in the Road Safety Bill could mean that riders will face a lowered risk of being involved in a collision.

The new bill aims to introduce a number of schemes that will reduce the numbers of people killed and seriously injured on UK roads by 40 per cent within five years.

Increasing penalties points and fines for those found guilty of committing road offences will hopefully encourage more motorists to observe road safety and reduce reckless driving.

"The UK has one of the best records in the world - the number of road casualties is at its lowest for nearly fifty years - but still more needs to be done and these plans will undoubtedly improve safety and further reduce deaths and injuries on our roads," said transport minister Alistair Darling.
