Safe drivers urged to shop around for motor insurance

Mon, 06 Mar 2006

Safe drivers are being encouraged to make sure they are shopping around for the best deal on their Motor Insurance cover.

It is estimated that more than 11 million drivers are failing to lower their annual premiums and spending an extra £1.4 billion on cover, according to research by Privilege Insurance.

Just 55 per cent of drivers seek out new quotes when they reach the end of their current policy period - despite the fact that the average driver with more than four years no claims could save £127.52 by shopping around.

Ian Parker, managing director of Privilege Insurance, said: "In an age where financial literacy is increasing, it is worrying to find that so many motorists have never used their four plus years no claims discount - which they've earned by driving safely - to ensure they get the best deal in an increasingly competitive market."

The growing number of online Motor Insurance providers means that drivers should find it even easier to obtain quotes before automatically renewing their current policy.
