Many people who travel abroad in their vehicle could be underinsured.
Churchill Car Insurance is warning the estimated 7.8 million motorists who take their car to the continent each year that they could risk expensive bills if something goes wrong.
All insurers are required to cover third party cover for travel abroad at no extra cost to customers but this overseas cover tends not to cover damage or loss to their own car or possessions.
Often consumers are required to pay extra on top of their annual premiums for comprehensive insurance whilst holidaying abroad, in some cases this can be around £30 for two weeks of cover.
"Motorists should check with their insurer before they travel that they have adequate cover for their needs," said Darren McCauley, head of Car Insurance at Churchill.
