Leading insurance intermediary, Hyperformance, maintains that it will continue to treat people caught by speed cameras fairly especially given the ongoing concerns over the cameras.
Hyperformance, which offers insurance for Young Drivers of high performance vehicles, is hoping to protect motorists from rising premiums following detection by speed cameras.
The insurer maintains that being caught by the cameras is too easy and that a fine, rather than a rise in Car Insurance costs, is enough to stop repeat offences.
"We believe that the overall cost of this double whammy can be unfair. For example, a driver who may travel 20,000 miles per year and who breaks the limit on a dual carriage way once, by a relatively small amount, can count themselves unlucky to receive a fine, but do they really deserve to be pummelled by a huge increase in their insurance premium as well?" said Steve McPherson from Hyperformance.
He added: "We never condone breaking the law, or the speed limit, but we will always try to take the nature of the offence and an individuals past driving record into account."
