Modern cars may be more secure but motorists are still being urged to insure their vehicles.
Security company Thatcham found that 82 cars on the market qualified for the recent British Insurance Car Security Awards.
Each car was rated according to how well it prevented a break-in, as well as the number of standard anti-theft devices fitted to the vehicle.
Auto Express reports that car-maker Citroen came top in three main categories, with the company's popular C3 model voted most secure supermini, whilst the C4 scored highest in both the small family and performance car sections.
A spokesman for the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders told Auto Express: "Home Office figures show how hard it is to steal new vehicles, and these awards highlight how investment from manufacturers is helping drive down crime."
However, motorists are being warned against just relying on their vehicles to prevent car crime and should follow basic guidelines about keeping valuables out of sight and parking in well-lit areas when leaving their car unattended.
