Check your motor insurance cover as part of motorway month

Mon, 15 Aug 2005

Motorists are being urged to make sure their insurance cover is up-to-date during the busiest month on UK motorways.

The RAC Foundation are warning drivers that the increase in holidaymakers during August is likely to lead to more accidents on the motorways and that not having adequate insurance could cause problems when vehicles are involved in a collision.

Research also discovered that Friday afternoons and early evenings are peak times for accidents on UK roads, as drivers start to wind down for the weekend and become less focused on their surroundings.

The RAC hope highlighting so-called "'Frustrated Fatal Fridays" will raise awareness and hopefully reduce both accident and congestion levels on Britain's road network as part of the national motorway month safety campaign.

Edmund King, executive director of the RAC Foundation said: "Although motorways are our safest roads, when accidents happen they can have dire consequences in terms of death and delays."

He added: "Motorists seem to have a love-hate relationship with motorways. They love them for getting around quickly, going on holiday or visiting family but hate getting caught up in congestion."
