Check you motor insurance before travelling abroad

Drivers should double-check their Motor Insurance before travelling abroad otherwise they could risk breaking the law.

Saga is hoping to highlight that many motorists could be unaware they may be driving illegally because they are not following basic foreign road laws.

In particular, 44 per cent of UK drivers overseas do not display a GB sticker and 40 per cent forget to pack a warning triangle that is compulsory in many European countries.

Failing to obey such laws could result in heavy fines and may invalidate some Motor Insurance policies or cause increases in existing premiums.

"It seems that we need to do a bit more research about European destinations before we travel," said Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga.

"By omitting to pack the required safety equipment, people could find themselves facing unnecessary fines if they get stopped by the police abroad," he added.
