Website seeks to clarify critical illness cover

Date: Thu, 27 Apr 2006

A new website is aiming to provide information on how consumers can find the appropriate critical illness policy.

Critical-illness-insurance-uk.org.uk aims to provide advice and information on how people can make sure they take out the most suitable cover and avoid any major problems if they are forced to claim.

Figures suggest that nearly 25 per cent of people become critically ill before they reach retirement age and cover is vital to ensure a financial stability during this period. However, many people are not aware of how to research and apply for the most suitable cover.

In particular, some applicants fail to fully disclose their medical history and can find their claim being rejected. For example, Kevin Mullane found out that his insurance company would not pay out under his critical illness policy when he developed secondary cancer because he failed to provide full information on his application.

Critical-illness-insurance-uk's company director, Victoria Selman, explained that the website aims to provide advice on how consumers can avoid such problems.

"We want to make sure that what happened to Kevin doesn’t happen to anyone else," said Ms Selman.
