British men are coming under increasing pressure to make sure their bodies are looking good, a new study claims.
The so-called "Mr Vain" study by Norwich Union Healthcare found that many men consider their bodies to be less than perfect. However, even those in top shape are still advised to take out some form of health and life insurance cover just in case.
The survey of over 500 men found that one third have problems with their stomachs, whilst 20 per cent are unhappy with their legs and 25 per cent admit they generally dislike their whole body. Over a quarter of men also said their partners were putting pressure on them to improve their physique.
Health and fitness expert Dean Hodgkin said: "Men's attitudes to their bodies are changing. Now it seems men exercise because they're keen to lose weight or feel guilty about over-indulging and it could be affecting their overall health and fitness."
Mr Hodgkin also raised concerns that many men are deceiving themselves about their general life of fitness and could be neglecting the possibility of developing life threatening conditions.
