UK mortgage holders are being warned against underinsuring possessions especially in the run-up to the festive period.
Halifax is urging consumers to double check that their current home insurance polices allow for the increase in contents cover as expensive presents are purchased in preparation for Christmas Day. Popular presents such as iPods and PSP's could mean that some UK mortgage holders could be out of pocket if they become a victim of crime.
Homeowners are also being advised to make sure they increase their contents cover after the holiday season, especially if they are lucky enough to receive a few luxury goods from Santa.
"Although some insurers will increase contents cover over Christmas this still leaves the problem of re-evaluating your contents in the New Year," said Vicky Emmott, senior underwriter Halifax Home Insurance.
"It's also vital for people without unlimited cover to remember to update their insurer with any changes to their contents value."
