UK mortgage holders argue about insurance

Date: Wed, 02 Nov 2005

UK mortgage holders' arguments over DIY can lead to costly insurance claims.

A new report from Direct Line Home Response shows that 81 per cent of women are still waiting for DIY work to be completed and, when it is attempted, the solution often causes more problems.

Delayed DIY tasks are thought to be responsible for arguments amongst 55 per cent of couples, with a fifth of men constantly trying to delay their attempts at home improvements.

"Home improvements and repairs are often a source of great stress for couples, especially those who try to carry out the work themselves," said Andrew Lowe, head of home insurance, Direct Line.

He added: "It is very easy for things to go wrong which can cause more costly repairs and arguments. Rather than put themselves under this pressure, couples should consider hiring an expert or getting appropriate insurance to cover emergency repair work."
