The British Heart Foundation and Legal & General have teamed up to launch a new Think Fit! programme.
The scheme is aimed at getting the UK's workforce fit and active and boosting economic success. It is being targeted at employers of all sizes and types that are interested in the health of their staff.
The programme offers advice, resources and information to encourage employees to get fit and active, which can have a positive effect on productivity and economic success, by reducing absenteeism and improving staff retention.
Incidents of health-related diseases, such as heart problems and diabetes, are soaring in the UK and the government and employers are keen to tackle the problem of poor health and inactivity. With many people spending half their waking hours at work, employers have a key role to play the nation's health.
Douglas Rouse, head of corporate fundraising at the British Heart Foundation, said: "A healthy workforce is essential for a healthy business. We want to see all employers taking an interest in the health of their staff and to help them get active. The Think Fit! programme can help to really make the difference."
Jane Dale, managing director of Legal & Generals Healthcare business, added: "Our experience of implementing several initiatives over the past few years to encourage employees to eat healthily and have a more active lifestyle is showing to improve staff morale and performance. As a result this has had a very positive effect on the business as a whole."
