Take advantage of critical illness cover

Date: Tue, 06 Dec 2005

Employees are being advised to take advantage of any critical illness policies that may be offered by their employers.

Many workers are neglecting to sign up to company policies that could help protect against a change in circumstances, claims financial advice website Motley Fool.

Typically a 35-year-old, non-smoking man can expect to pay out around £20 per month to purchase life insurance cover up to £200,000. However, many large employers offer similar polices for nothing – meaning a potential saving of around £240 a year.

Firms may also allow workers to add extras on to their life insurance policies including protection and critical illness cover and may extend the products to cover other family members.

In order to find out what benefits are offered by employers, workers are advised to double-check their employee benefits paperwork or arrange a meeting with their HR department.
