Security a key issue for UK mortgage holders

Date: Fri, 23 Sep 2005

Mortgage lenders value security as one of the most important factors when choosing a new home, new data shows.

Research by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors shows that homebuyers from nearly all social groups pay particular attention to security when looking for a house.

Single women in particular place a huge emphasis on security, with 79 per cent of single female homebuyers rating it as a priority.

It is also a big issue for families looking to move house, although gardens and the proximity of schools are also key factors.

As many as 58 per cent of divorcee homebuyers rate security as a priority, while 36 per cent of gay couples looking for a home also pay it particular consideration.
