Savings battle could leave life insurance behind

Date: 18 Feb 05 Analysis

The government appears to be facing a tough task persuading Brits to save more money.

Ministers are keen for the British people to think more carefully about the future and not just live for today.

But spiralling levels of consumer debt suggest that so far this message is failing to get through.

Interest in savings accounts remains disappointing, especially among people on lower incomes.

With most people not even putting money aside each month for their retirement, convincing them to take on long-term investments like life insurance looks even more difficult.
