The growing number of people wanting to own a second home could boost the demand for new build mortgages.
New research conducted by American Express Travel Insurance concludes that around 31 per cent of people are considering the purchase of a holiday home and some would even consider building their own second property.
The number of people investing in a property overseas has increased by 85 per cent over the past decade, with around 750,000 Brits owning a stake in the Spanish property market and around 500,000 people investing in French holiday homes.
As more people are willing to travel abroad, it seems that nearly one in three people are tempting by having a retreat in abroad, with homes in France, Spain and Italy proving most appealing.
"This is the second year running we have seen a rise in consumer confidence with our customers planning to travel 15 per cent more this year than last," said Joanne Field, marketing manager at American Express insurance services.
