Life insurance offers summer protection

Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2006

The forthcoming summer may mean lighter nights but people are being urged to still consider their personal safety.

A survey from life insurance provider Legal & General discovered that many people are feeling positive about the fact that evenings are starting to get lighter. Around one in five people had raised concerns that winter nights lead to an increase in personal safety fears, whilst one in ten felt that inadequate street lighting often meant their walk home felt unsafe.

Unsurprisingly more women than men were troubled by the long nights, with 23 per cent of females raising concerns, compared to 17 per cent of men.

However, the start of British summertime does not mean that people should take unnecessary risks warned Elaine Parkes from Legal & General.

"We would encourage everyone to continue to be just as vigilant about their personal safety during the summer months as they are during winter.

"This includes avoiding routes that are not well lit and sticking to paths they know so they do not feel so vulnerable."

Taking out a life insurance policy could help to offer some people added protection and ensure financial security for loved ones.
