Life insurance could help to reassure the public about potential health threats.
A new survey by insurance provider AXA shows that many people believe smoking and pollution are the biggest health threats facing the population. A total of 79 per cent of UK workers believe that stress is a major factor when it comes to health, whilst 77 per cent believe that smoking and a poor diet could lead to problems.
Surprisingly many people, a total of 77 per cent, raised concern that pollution is a strong health risk.
Dr David Costain, medical director of AXA said: "We were surprised and concerned to find that pollution and stress are bigger health concerns for people in the UK than smoking, poor diet and drinking."
He added: "We hear a lot about the risks of smoking, binge drinking and obesity and the detrimental effect they are having on our health as a nation but it seems these have been surpassed by fears about the state of the environment and the ever increasing pressures of modern living."
It is thought that critical illness cover and life insurance could help lesson the worries that many people feel about their long-term health prospects.
