Don't be blinkered-take out life insurance

Date: Thu, 16 Feb 2006

People should not ignore their financial circumstances and instead ensure they have adequate life insurance cover.

New research from Standard Life shows that many people are unaware of their true financial worth and therefore may not have invested their savings wisely. This could mean that loved ones and relatives could face an uncertain future unless there is a sufficient life insurance policy in place.

In particular, the study revealed that 45 per cent of people have never reviewed their finances with a financial adviser and just 14 per cent think that a financial advisor would be able to assess the total value of their savings.

John Taylor, marketing director at Standard Life, said, "With so much talk today of a pensions crisis and a savings gap, it is of great concern that so many people are still confused over their financial planning."

He added: "Many people are wearing a financial blindfold when it comes to their future plans. Financial advice is the way to remove this blindfold."
