Critical illness cover could help charities

Date: Wed, 03 May 2006

A new critical illness cover product has been launched that aims to benefit charities as well as consumers.

Nationwide has promised to donate £1 to the Macmillan Cancer Support charity every time they sell a critical illness policy to reflect the fact that one in three people are likely to be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives as well as recognising the vital role of Macmillan nurses.

"Nationwide has had a strong association with Macmillan Cancer Support for many years and we wanted to make our members even more aware of the services this charity offers to those affected by cancer," said Robin Bailey, divisional director at Nationwide.

The company has pledged that a minimum of £15,000 will be donated as a result of the selling of critical illness policies and other life insurance cover. There is no upper limit to the amount Nationwide will donate.
