Critical illness cover is seen as vital for women who are focussed on their careers and long-term work prospects.
A survey from provider AXA revealed that just a third of women want to retire from work early, compared to 52 per cent of men. However, this means that women should use their earnings to help cover the cost of a critical illness policy so they can focus on climbing the career ladder and not have to worry if they become ill.
This is also true as women start to become the main bread winner in the household. A total of 43 per cent of working females are the main earner and critical illness cover could help to cover the loss of a key salary.
Steve Folkard at AXA said: "Women have work opportunities like never before in the modern world of work and many are scaling the heights of the career ladder to claim responsible positions and the financial rewards that go with them.
"It therefore makes sense that female workers would be more reluctant to give up the daily grind despite the obvious appeal of an early retirement."
