Consider critical illness cover as part of finance review

Date: Tue, 06 Dec 2005

Consumers are being advised to include critical illness cover in their post-Christmas finance review.

A study from Alliance & Leicester shows that many people will overstretch their finances this year in order to cover the cost of the Christmas period and the building society is urging people to review their financial situation at the start of 2006.

It is predicted that one in three people will borrow money to help pay for the festive holiday season but just 56 per cent will consider examining their spending habits in the New Year.

However, reviewing their budgets and consolidating their debts could help to provide spare cash to pay for benefits such as critical illness cover.

"With many millions of pounds spent on the high street in the run-up to Christmas, shoppers will need to look at their finances and consider the different ways they can save money," said Claire Alvey, personal loans manager at Alliance & Leicester.
