Those applying for a UK mortgage are being advised to check their credit record before submitting their application.
Credit agency MyCallCredit is urging potential homeowners to ensure their credit history is in order otherwise they could face being turned down by lenders, especially as numerous credit applications could result in a low credit score. This also means that UK mortgage applicants may be forced to accept uncompetitive deals.
"People shouldnt panic if they are rejected by a lender - lots of people are turned down for credit but that doesnt mean they have to resort to lenders who charge uncompetitive rates," said MyCallcredit director, Alison Nicholson.
"It may be that your credit profile simply doesnt suit that particular lender - another lender may look at the application more favourably."
MyCallCredit suggest that anyone looking to improve their credit history should ensure they make payments on time, maintain a steady job as well as registering with the electoral roll.
